Wikispaces Editing

  1. It is absolutely a fact that the different technological resources we have known and used this term are very useful and can be definitely taken into consideration for teaching purposes. Talking about the Wiki, its most valuable aspect, in my opinion, is that one of allowing us to create and edit web page content constantly and every time we consider it necessary. Besides, having the chance of adding hyperlinks is also important since they are always used for providing extra information of the target content and mostly to clarify the doubts the students may have while the learning process. Because of the previous reason, I consider that a way in which I would use this resource is by asking my students to work in pairs and produce paragraphs (each student writes his/her own paragraph), and toexchange them in order to look for the mistakes each student may have done and also to add hyperlinks in which the explanation to clarify the mistakes which were done is provided. I strongly believe that students are more confident when they are corrected by a classmate than when their teacher corrects them, so this could be a valuable strategy. Finally, the teacher, who should have access to every Wiki, could check all the works and corrections done by the students and discuss and explain in class the most common of them.

  2. Through years, technology has taken an important role in people’s life, and in different fields; Wikipedia is not the exception, because it may be so useful not only for people who takes part of the wiki itself, but also for people who wants to share their knowledge with each other, in other words, everyone who has access to a computer, and is looking for information, Wikis are outstanding sources. An example of this is seen in the reading: “If your student produces a great research paper on global warming, why shouldn’t she add what she found to the global warming entry at Wikipedia? And why shouldn’t we watch together to see what happens to that information that she adds?”(p.60) Furthermore, wiki is not difficult to use, as it is seen in the video, following simple steps we may take advantage of the Wikipedia. We should encourage students to use more this sites that produce great input. In high school, a great possibility may be that we as teachers can make students develop researches of what is proposed by the MEP using this tool, but working as team with their classmates and building together their project.

  3. Nowadays, technology has become an important tool in teaching; this is because new technologies are provided a real context in which would help teacher to engage students in real life situations. Also, according to Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and Other Powerful Web Tools for classroom, P 61, technology such as Wikis and Podcasts give to students the opportunity to have a democratic learning process of knowledge creation, besides, the article states that in using wikis, students are not only learning how to develop and use all sorts of collaborative skills, negating with others to agree on correctness, meaning, relevance, and more. Also, teacher can use wikis to create auto evaluation or group evaluation between peers.
As a teacher some activities I can apply using wikis are:
-Divide the group in subgroups and assign to each group a research about a specific topic in which they have to post the information in a wiki space, and the other groups must comment about the written report, create a collaborative evaluation.
-Also, some activities can be posted on the wiki and some presentations in order to reinforce a topic studied in class.
