How to Add Hyperlinks to a PowerPoint Presentation For Dummies

  1. Creating a Power Point Presentation is a tool used nowadays in the classrooms by many teachers. This multimedia instrument engages students within the learning process due to students love using technological resources. As it is seen in the video, by utilizing hyperlinks teachers can create wonderful presentations in which you jump from a slide to a web page or from a slide to a video and that is what students like to do because they like it and they understand it. Besides, as stated in the reading Learning with Multimedia Tools, “Multimedia presentations can create multisensory learning experiences for students” (page 305). So, by using Power Point Presentations teachers are integrating the different learning styles: visual, auditory, auditory, and kinesthetic in the classrooms. As I mentioned in the other forum, I have used PPP in my classes because students enjoy learning English in different ways, and PPP is one way for the students to improve their English by using their senses.
As a teacher, I will use PPP in a vast amount of topics, a couple of examples are:
    • A PPP in which students first look at the topic, study about it, and then hyperlinks to different web pages in which they will find more information about the topic like: readings, videos, and practices for them to understand the topic as much as they can.
    • Also, when studying idioms or different topics regarding vocabulary I will create a PPP with different hyperlinks in which students will watch a video about the vocabulary. For example, the idiom “Give me a break”, so students will watch a video in which they understand the meaning of the idiom and how it is used in real contexts.

  2. Certainly, power point is a useful tool teachers can implement in their lessons with the purpose to gain students’ interest toward topics. It is an achievable program for teachers as well as students. Power point presents a variable of simple applications allow students to create original presentations and to present works in a different way. Also, it helps teachers to do something different in their daily teaching routine, even when power point is a simple program it can cause a great effect on students learning process.
Examples: I will ask students to present their family trees with hyperlinks; the hyperlinks have to show a physical description of each member of the family. Students have to include photos too.
I will present natural resources of Costa Rica with hyperlinks in which place’s name will link to information of the place, photos and map pointing the specific territory of the place.

  3. The use of PPP is something that is not an innovation but it could be a very interesting option if the presenter attaches certain extra material in order to make it out of the ordinary. The greater part of the student population has used this kind of strategy to present a wide variety of topics. Sometimes I feel like people overuse this tool; it does not mean that it is not useful anymore. Have you ever been in class where 20 classmates use a PPP as a technique to present the content? Well I have, and let me tell you something based on my experience and what I`ve done, I`m sure that PPP has so much more to offer that just color and pictures to be attached. If we as teacher want to be updated we must know how to use a PPP without wasting or misuse all the option that this software offers. For example, hyperlinks, sounds, videos, images, transition options, and so many others possibilities that can provoke a great impact in the way your students receive the message you are trying to communicate.
I used PPP to present vocabulary…for example the same word written 3 times in a slide with 3 different hyperlinks, each one with a different use of the word as well as its corresponding sound to illustrate clearly its pronunciation.
I created a PPP as a memory game by using images and hyperlinks, I divided the class in 3 teams and each team has a chance to make a match in order to get points. This was another way to use PPP.
