WebQuests are important resources for teachers to implement in the classrooms because they offer guided mediation activities for students to learn on line. According to Berny Dodge (2010,) in his WebQuest about WebQuest “Since early in 1995, teachers everywhere have learned how to use the web well by adopting the WebQuest format to create inquiry-oriented lessons. This shows that the WebQuest format is not new, but seems to be very effective since it has been used for more than fifteen years. The same author also argues that “this exercise will provide you with a larger pool of ideas to work with as you develop your WebQuest-making skills. “ Therefore, not only by completing the task, but also by construing this type of tools students and teacher will encounter a great deal of language practice to improve their English. Besides, Dodge argues that “The key to making a successful WebQuest of this type is to find questions that can be addressed by the kinds of data available online, that are not so arcane that they cannot be related to the standard science curriculum, and are not so well known that crunching the numbers becomes an exercise in going through the motions.” Indeed, I agree with all before because of the availability of technology nowadays. There are loads of manners that one can consider to develop a WebQuest to teach English, nevertheless, it is clear that they have to be adapted to the context and population at hand. On way for me to use this tool would be to reinforce the subjects one is teaching in classrooms; by linking extra-material such as websites, videos, and assignments all of the four skills could be working out. For Example, I attached some videos about vocabulary to my WebQuest with the intention to provide audiovisual language examples easy to manipulate for students, so they can reproduce, repeat, and watch them as they want. Also, there are some selected literature of easy access for them to read for comprehension and production of short writings. Another, important option is given by means of training students in the use of this tool for them to carry out the whole process of being the creators of their own knowledge; as a project it would be feasible to implement in those areas in which technology is available as students show ability to work with these tools.
Webquesting demands a higher level of thinking and when we make use of this tool, we as teacher also need to be very careful to select the most convinient topic and exercises for our students to develop. As cited in http://www.internet4classrooms.com, the creation of the webquest is a detailed process that has to be done one step at a time, then interconnect all the elements together into a well designed oriented project. For this reason I can use the webquest to assign my students to prepare an oral presentation about a certain topic using a Power point Presentation in order to show all the relevant information that they can find through the internet resources that I will propose them.
