It is a great idea to embed the podcasting option in all of the words we have done in the different programs used through the course. Indeed, I believe it is an essential tool that will provide the works we done with some kind of autonomy. If one can read and listen to the instructions given in the “web “works; then, it is not necessary to spend much time on giving explanations over the directions to follow. According to the reading Podcasting, Video and Screencasting, and Live Streaming is easy to carry out a podcast since it does not requires much hard work, materials, and time. What is really necessary is enough interest in the topic to keep motivation. This is a fact reinforced by the man in the video. As teacher, I will include the podcast in the listening part of the class; perhaps, with the intention to diminish the teacher’s talk that sometimes could be boring for students. Besides, it is a healthy behavior to take care of one’s voice. Since the instructions of some activities are sometimes the same, it would be a nice idea to record them once, to later play them whenever necessary it becomes to be. Another option for me to use this podcasting is the recording of short stories and tales not only to teach literature both other important contents. Being able to develop podcast give people the chance to listen whatever they recorded even when they sleep so that this tool in a class could be a key element. So, the podcast could be used in the class and at home for students to enhance the listening skill.
Podcasting is an innovative way of letting anyone to easilyproduce and shareinformation.Even though recording, uploading, hosting, and sharing podcasts seems to be a complicated process, it is an excellent way of creating material about any topic which could be used forcoveringdifferent contents. A very remarkable aspect about podcasting is that it reinforces and promotes the listening proficiency improvement through the implementationof audio recordings, which is relevant if we take into consideration that most of what the students listen to while they are learning is mainly their teacher’s explanations, so podcasting could be unquestionably an excellent option for breaking up with this habit. In my case, I would use podcasting in my classroom for small tasks, such as lexicon acquisition and patterns identification. An example of this is the usage of different recordings for students to listen and organize them (e.g. organizing a story in chronological order by listening and analyzing each of its parts).
To create a podcast is a great way to use authentic material into the classroom. Teachers have to adequate materials used into the classroom according to the students’ context and needs. It is very simple to create a podcast and it is even cheaper to use them than buying listening materials. “…you do not need a lot of technical expertise to make it work.” (Page 113) There are three basic steps involved in the development of a podcast: motivation, equipment and the production of the podcast. So, having a positive attitude toward the tool, having the necessary technological devices and produce the podcast are quite important aspects to obtain good results with the creation of our podcast. Besides, different purposes can be taken into account when we as teachers apply the usage of podcasts in our lessons. For example: “All teachers could record important parts of what they do in the classroom that can then be archived to the class Weblog and used by students who may have missed the class or just want a refresher on what happened.” (Page 117) We as future teachers can use a podcast in the following way: 1. Create a text or story in which you are going to apply something about grammar or something studied in class. You make a podcast (audio) about the story and carry it to the classroom for the students to listen to the story. It is authentic material that is going to make students have a more significant learning process.
There are so many benefits from using Podcasts or teaching English. For instance, if we want to evaluate progress of our students´ speaking abilities, a podcast is just the correct innovative tool. We may design an evaluation rubric to register our grading job while we analyze students ´podcasts. This activity involves a set of steps that contribute to do an organized assessment while we promote in our students creativity and self confidence in developing original , useful materials. As cited in chapter Critical issues: Blended Learning, page 416, “… it promotes meaningful learning based on constructivist theoretical principles, which, in addition to encourage active student engagement, provide learners with the chance to reflect upon their errors and progress.” I would use podcasts in class to assign students different tasks such as record themselves telling a short story or narrating the latest news. With this types of activities I will do my assessment and they can also develop their own self- correction identifying aspects of their oral performance . I will be able to deliver feedback, prompt correction and suitable reflection. This is mentioned in chapter Critical issues: Blended Learning, page 416, “ Blending online tools with our classes allows students for more opportunity for immediate reflection and steady improvement of their own performances ”. Therefore the implementation of podcasts in the teaching work ensures a greater interaction among the participants and a productive process using the language.
